Oryx Fund backs Mena-based healthcare startup

Alma Health, a healthcare start-up based in Abu Dhabi, has secured funding from a Mena-focused venture capital fund backed by UK asset manager, Hambro Perks.

The US$50 million Oryx Fund was launched in February with the mission to invest in early stage Mena startups and with a particular focus on the healthtech, fintech and edtech sectors.

It has been joined by a number of angel investors from Saudi Arabia and the UAE in the funding for Alma Health.

The investment will be used to support Alma Health’s planned expansion into Saudi Arabia later this year.

“Through our previous investments in healthtech businesses such as Echo and Peppy, we have seen first-hand the potential of innovative technology to significantly transform the lives and health outcomes for millions of people,” said Ali Qaiser, a partner at Oryx Fund.
