Nomura’s digital assets arm approved in Dubai

Dubai’s virtual assets regulatory authority (VARA) has approved a digital asset subsidiary of Japanese bank Nomura.

Laser Digital Middle East FZE completed the final stage of the licensing process, which enables it to offer broker-dealer and investment services via its Dubai entity.

The digital assets business was launched just less than a year ago by Nomura. The Dubai entity will be led by CEO Jez Mohideen, supported by head of distribution Cameron Dickie.

The approval comes just two weeks after Nomura opened its first office in Dubai as part of its global wealth management offering.
