QIA commits $1.5bn to investment platform

Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund has backed a new investment platform launched by James Murdoch and a former Walt Disney executive.

The Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) will invest up to US$1.5 billion in Bodhi Tree which was launched by Murdoch, the chief executive of investment firm Lupa Systems, and Uday Shankar, former CEO of Star Indian and president of Walt Disney Asia Pacific.

The QIA’s backing will be used to fund investments in Southeast Asia with a particular focus on media and consumer technology in India.

“The QIA is investing in the technology and media space and India is a key market for us,” said chief executive Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al-Mahmoud.
