HSBC names Middle East banking head

HSBC has appointed Julian Wentzel as the head of global banking for the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey (Menat).

He is currently head of global banking for the UK and International Europe and will be relocating from London to Dubai to take up the new role in September.

HSBC chief executive Stephen Moss, group managing director and regional chief executive, Menat, HSBC Bank Middle East, welcomed Wentzel’s appointment as a “valuable addition” to the “group’s growth strategy in this hugely important region”.

Wentzel succeeds Gareth Thomas, who has been appointed chief risk officer for the bank’s Menat business.

As of the end of 2021, HSBC’s assets in the region totalled US$71 billion.
