HSBC Asset Management has appointed former First Sentier Investors executive Ali Karmali as head of institutional business for the Mena region.
Based in Dubai, he will report to Maria Ryan, head of institutional business, UK, Nordics, Middle East and Africa.
Karmali was previously at First Sentier Investors (formerly First State Investments), where he spent 19 years.
He was most recently head of Middle East & Africa and served in a number of international roles during his time at the firm.
Ryan welcomed Karmali’s recruitment adding that the Middle East is one of its “key markets for our long-term growth strategy”.
