Dubai launches hedge fund charm offensive

Dubai is the latest jurisdiction in the Mena market to lay out its ambition to become a global hedge fund hub.

The Dubai International Financial Centre has published a report titled ‘Dubai: The next global hedge fund centre – opportunities and outlook’.

The report, published in partnership with data provider Refinitiv, outlines the DIFC’s progress in attracting overseas hedge funds to set up in Dubai.

In 2022, the DIFC saw a 54% increase in the number of hedge funds it hosted.

The current ‘ecosystem’ of hedge funds is dominated by US and UK firms that jointly account for roughly two-thirds of the hedge funds within the DIFC.

However, if the number and scope of hedge funds established in the DIFC continues to grow, the centre expects to attract more smaller-scale hedge funds, additional prime brokers and tech start-ups.
