Bahrain targets overseas investment with residency visa

Bahrain has sought to encourage greater overseas investment and attract talent with the launch of a visa scheme that offers permanent residency.

The ‘golden residency visa’ can be renewed indefinitely and includes the right to work in Bahrain as well as unrestrained exit and entry for close family members.

Eligibility for existing residents is based on at least five years continuous residency and a salary of no less than US$5,305 per month.

Other criteria includes ownership of property in Bahrain worth more than $530,000 or be deemed a “highly talented” individual.

According to Khalid Ibrahim Humaidan, chief executive of the Economic Development Board, the scheme will help to promote Bahrain as an ideal regional hub for investment.
