Centaur fund offers exposure to African coal mines

CoalDubai-based Centaur Asset Management has launched a Bermuda-domiciled fund offering returns linked to bonds financing coal mines in South Africa.

The bonds, which are issued by parent company Centaur Group and listed on the Bermuda Stock Exchange, give exposure to the mining sector without buying shares, says the firm.

“We’ve developed a genuinely strong product, which allows investors to access the natural resources market, without the risk of any equity exposure,” says Franklin Connellan, director of business development, Centaur Asset Management.

Trident Trust is the administrator of the fund, which aims for a return of 7% a year over a three-year term. The open-ended fund will offer a monthly dividend.

Headquartered in Dubai, Centaur Asset Management also has offices in London and Bermuda.
