Mubadala makes Indian infrastructure play

Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund Mubadala has invested in an Indian infrastructure investment trust.

Mubadala, along with Canadian pension fund British Columbia Investment Management Corporation, has participated in a funding round for Cube Highways Trust, along with a number of institutional investors.

The trust raised US$630 million, which will be used to develop its portfolio of 18 toll and annuity road assets across India.

According to Mubadala, the investment is in line with its stated policy to increase its focus on Indian assets.

And according to Saed Arar, executive director and head of traditional infrastructure at Mubadala, India offers the most significant growth opportunity for road projects thanks to a robust and well-regulated market for infrastructure investment.
