Mubadala forms Japanese property joint venture

Abu Dhabi wealth fund Mubadala has teamed up with US asset manager Proprium Capital Partners and Canada’s Manulife Investment Management to launch a joint venture focused on Japan’s real estate sector.

Japanese asset manager Samurai Capital will manage the property assets.

According to Mubadala, the JV plans to build a US$572 million property portfolio, targeting urban dwellers in Tokyo and Osaka.

Seed money was provided by income from existing rental multi-family properties in Japan.

“Japan is a key strategic market for Mubadala, and we look forward to working with our partners to create long-term value and deliver sustainable, high-quality living spaces for communities across the country,” said Matthias Neuling, head of Asia real estate for Mubadala.
