Mumtalakat and Arcapita invest in healthcare services

Bahraini sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat has invested in a healthcare services firm alongside alternative asset manager Arcapita.

Set up in Abu Dhabi in 2002, NAS United Healthcare Services provides third-party administration for health insurance companies in the Gulf region. The two investors together acquired 90% of the company.

“Global population trends indicate the importance of increased healthcare solutions and by extension, health insurance services,” said Mahmood Hashem Alkooheji, chief executive of Mumtalakat.

Alkooheji added that the government of Bahrain was working on a mandatory health insurance law to be implemented in the next two years.

Arcapita, which has an office in Bahrain, is mainly involved in real estate and private equity. The company claims a track record of $30 billion of total transaction value.
