Investec adds to African private markets team

HandshakeInvestec Asset Management has hired Chris Newson as director of private markets, working in its Africa private markets platform. The appointment follows the firm's hiring of Peter Baird as managing principal of its African private equity funds.  “Confidence is returning to several [African] markets against a backdrop of general economic stability and recovery,” said Domenico Ferrini, co-chief investment officer. “Sophisticated investors are looking through the cycle to cheap currencies, low entry valuations, high yields and compelling growth drivers and we look forward to navigating these opportunities in partnership with our clients.” Newson used to be the chief executive of Standard Bank Africa. ©2017 funds global mena
