BNY Mellon confirms new MENA team after Elrefai retires

14.10 HandshakeTarek Sherlala and Rajai Ayyash are running BNY Mellon’s team in the Middle East and Africa (MENA) region following the retirement of Tarek Elrefai.

As senior executive officer, Sherlala is in charge of business strategy for the branch and will oversee compliance of BNY Mellon’s activities within the Dubai International Financial Centre. He will also continue as the company’s head of asset servicing in the MENA region.

Ayyash is regional executive for the Gulf region, having previously acted as country executive for the UAE, Kuwait and Oman.

Sherlala and Ayyash have taken over from Tarek Elrefai, who was senior executive officer for the Dubai branch and head of client management for the MENA region for five years.

Hani Kablawi, co-chairman of MENA at BNY Mellon, thanked Elrefai for helping to build the company’s presence in the region, where Elrefai worked in a number of roles for the company for 25 years.

Elsewhere at BNY Mellon, Giambattista Atzeni takes up a newly created role leading wealth management in the region. Meanwhile, Clive Robinson has moved to Dubai from the Netherlands to develop the asset servicing business, with a particular focus on the Gulf region.
